Episode #134: NEW Pesticide in 80% of Americans as well as Cheerios & Quaker Oats: Linked with Reproductive Issues
Mar 28, 2024 Episode 134
Joel Salatin, Dr. Sina McCullough

Today, Farmer Joel and Dr. Sina shine a spotlight on the lesser-known pesticide, chlormequat, which was recently detected on oat and grain-based foods, including Cheerios and Quaker Oats.

Chlormequat may not be a household name yet, but its implications are far-reaching.  Associated with reproductive and developmental issues in animal studies, including reduced fertility and altered fetal growth, this pesticide's potential harm may extend to humans.

Shockingly, a recent study discovered chlormequat present in the urine of 80% of Americans and 92% of oat-based products tested, raising alarming questions about its prevalence in our food supply.

But here's the kicker: chlormequat is strictly permitted on ornamental plants in the US, not on food crops.  So, how did it infiltrate our food chain?

Join Dr. Sina as she unravels the mystery behind chlormequat's presence in our food and bodies, shedding light on the flaws and limitations of current studies supporting its allowable levels.

Tune in to gain a deeper understanding of this pervasive pesticide and its implications for our health and food system along with actions farmers and consumers can take in response to this concerning revelation.
